The Would You Rather Book Tag

Thank you to Joey @ Thoughts & Afterthoughts for tagging me!

Would you rather only read trilogies or standalones?

Standalones, hands down. As much as I enjoy trilogies and series—I have no time to read trilogy after trilogy. It would get to be a little too mundane. I would give up my precious fantasy trilogies/series for heartfelt, funny standalones any day of the week.

Would you rather read only male or female authors?

I was perplexed before I found my loophole. Research comes in handy. Ā I cannot answer this because non binary authors aren’t included. There aren’t two genders. I would instead read all the genders. Besides you can’t ask me to choose between Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli. (I’d say Zac Brewer if I read them.) That’s not a possibility.

Would you rather shop at Barnes and Noble or Amazon?

Choosing either would mean not going to Books of Wonder and that is not a world I want to live in. Books of Wonder is an amazing independent bookstore in upper Manhattan (around W 18th, by the Container Store?).

They host a lot of book tours, launches, and signings—AND THEY DON’T SELL SIGNED COPIES ANY HIGHER THAN THE REGULAR PRICE. So…neither…again…Books of Wonder, forever!

Would you rather read only 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

Oh, God. 5 books per week. Again…hands down…5 pages and stopping at an intense part would be torture. I read pretty fast so 5 pages would be—my inner book lion would be insatiable.

Would you rather be a professional author or reviewer?

I really wanna say “Both” so let me explain.
Author—because I was a huge writer as a child. I still have the picture book I wrote with my best friend when we were children.Ā  (It was fantasy, of course.) Also, I clutter notebooks with poetry so…shove that into the face of hippies? Lol.

Reviewer—Although I take notes and then write out an outline; I don’t feel that it would be too difficult to do. To write a review on paper—half an hour. Typing…editing…maybe 2 hours, tops? Not bad. Honestly, as long as I’m working in the book industry–I’ll be happy.

Would you rather be a librarian or a bookseller?
Bookseller because a) book discounts and b) I want to work at Books of Wonder when I’m a bit older.

Would you rather read only your favorite genre, or every other genre but your favorite?

You see, I don’t have one set favorite genre. So, my favorites because there would always be new original content and I’d be able to promote authors within that genre.

Would you rather read only e-books or physical books?

E-books are convenient for travel. I choose physical books because

  • They don’t hurt my eyes with radiation
  • I fly through them faster
  • They cost more and therefore benefit the authors I support
  • I can go to launches/tours/signings, etc to get them signed which could lead to conversing with other book people.
  • They have distinct, interesting scents. Not ashamed. Judge me for all eternity.

  1. I feel like I’m reading my own answers. As long as I’d work on the book industry, I’d be very happy, too! šŸ™‚
And never judging you for the part about interesting smells. Yes, I do smell my books, and I LOVE it. I’m so glad to see I’m not alone šŸ˜€

  3. I really want to visit Books of Wonder when I visit NY one day! And I love your backup reasonings for why physical books are just awesome, haha. I totally agree, they cost more but they do help support authors. I also like how pretty real books look when shelved.

  4. So I already told you my thoughts on your answers… But, yeah, I smell books, too! And a Books of Wonder visit is one on my list. Uh, the 5 pages or 5 books question is so extreme, wouldn’t you agree? Also, just the idea of choosing between your favorite authors just because of gender is just–UGH. I can’t.

    • Miel, I would not agree! Although my time to do this varies, I can and have read 5 books per week! I think it would be ridiculous to choose between favorites on gender, alone. Just…no…never. Cool that I’m not alone in smelling books and I hope you make it to visit to Books of Wonder in your lifetime. Especially for a book event. It sucks that you have to travel that far just to see some people, though–doesn’t it? Smh. Thanks for stopping by!
