More Happy Than Not Unofficial Playlist

I really enjoyed MHTN by Adam Silvera! Here is a link to my review:
Here are the songs I listened to, or thought of while reading!
Not all songs will have explanations or lyrics; but to me they all perfectly encompassed the assigned chapter.
Read MHTN by Adam Silvera and maybe use the playlist if you’re into that!

Part One

Sail-AWOLNation (1)

This song starts off with a rhythmic beat, perfectly—which is what I felt about the start. Honest; and it made me smile.

This song is a mix of scalding agony, grief and unwanted thoughts all at once; which is why it suited this chapter perfectly.

“Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself (myself)
Blame it on my A.D.D, baby.”

All Night by Icona Pop (2)

Needed a fun song for The Trade Date.

Welcome To The Black Parade- Chemical Romance (7)
This made my heart ache. Triggering and relatable.

Spectrum- FATM (3)

“Say my name
And every color illuminates
We are shining
And we will never be afraid again”

Cosmic Love by Florence and The Machine  (6)

“The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I’m always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart”

We Are Young by FUN(8)

We are young
So let’s set the world of fire
And we can burn brighter
Than the sun.”

Got A Feeling-Black Eyed Peas (10)

“I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good, good night.”

Last Resort  (11)

This is one of my friend’s jams; and encompasses this FEELS-y chapter.  It’s not a spoiler, I promise.

HUGE TRIGGER WARNING to those who are depressed, know someone who is depressed, etc. DO NOT READ THE LYRICS IF SO.

“Cut my life into pieces
I’ve reached my last resort
Suffocation, no breathing
Don’t give a fuck if I cut my arm, bleeding
Do you even care if I die bleeding?
Would it be wrong?, would it be right?
If I took my life tonight
Chances are that I might
Mutilation outta sight
And I’m contemplating suicide”

I Lived by OneRepublic (12)

“I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived.”

Summer-Calvin Harris (4)

Tennis Court-Flume Remix (13)

Part Two

(4)-I’m In Here by Sia (Piano Version)

“I really really wish Genevieve could just forget me.”

The sadness that twisted my heart brought me to this tear-inducing song. You can feel his sadness as your own.

Also, it’s the breakup chapter.

Only if For A Night by Florence and The Machine (3)-
For something as serious and as difficult for Aaron as coming out; I couldn’t choose something that undermined it. I chose this song because it has a bit of a fear in it and a bit of strength to stand up.

“And my only solution was to stand and fight…”

Wasted–Tiesto (1)

Because this is a summer-y party type song with kids that are drunk so it fit.

Chandelier—SIA (2)

In this chapter, it is A) raining b) Aaron is alone with thoughts he shouldn’t be alone with and c) he’s struggling between two people he loves.

The soprano of this song seemed a bit sweetly sad when I first listened to it; and with all that’s going on. This song slipped into my head immediately.

(5) What You Know- Two Door Cinema

I feel this starts kind of upbeat considering they are playing a game. And then Aaron defending Thomas; and going with him. It needed a song that both fit and had a sharp contrast with the events.

(6) Something I Need by One Republic because a) this is Side B.
b) Aaron was happy and says Thom is his happiness…c) the turn of events could make Howl by Florence & The Machine an alternate because there’s more pain and need in it.

“And if you only die once I wanna die with
You got something I need
In this world full of people there’s one killing me
And if we only die once, (hey)
I wanna die with you (you, you, you)
You got something I need
In this world full of people there’s one killing me
And if we only die once, (hey)
I wanna die with you (you, you)”

(7&8) Sail (reprisal) LETEO. Refer to beginning. REPEAT LETEO.

These chapters were super full of devastating agony. I can’t say much more than that.

Part Zero—
Give It All by Train.

I was basically a super triggered (don’t ask), fast page flipping, shuddering mess throughout this part; and refused to put the book down.

Amazing how a story can affect the mind, isn’t it?

Give It All; if you’ve watched the artsy video is about someone losing their suicidal best friend and then that best friend relieving them of their grief.

It encompasses this part—as painful as being stabbed again and again in your back. Of course, it’s well written—but it was very, VERY painful.

Martin Solveig Ft. Dev—“We Came To Smash (In A Black Tuxedo)”

This song is in the credits of Pitch Perfect; and just made me nod along and dance.
Rather than a sad, hopeful song—I thought it better to have something that encompasses the feeling you get reading Silvera’s writing.

Since I review, I pay attention to the writing like I do the story. And I was cheering him on. (As you probably saw me live tweet on Twitter.)

His writing is bow down to the writing king good. You don’t end that with something sad.

Silvera TRULY smashed my world with this atomic bomb of a debut.
